Does Technology Ensure Progress? Essay

In today's society, it is often recognized that technology has gotten us to this point in the way we live our lives. Is it safe to say that we have truly progressed with technology? Without going any further, the topics of discussion should be clarified. Technology, according to Webster's Online Dictionary means the practical application of science to commerce or industry, while progress means the gradual improvement or growth or development. In this essay, we will discuss that technology has indeed ensured progress in our everyday lives, however such advancements result in further issues for us to deal with. These issues may include our environment, and our attachment and reliance on various technologies.

Scientists and engineers have invented various technologies in which we have found beneficial in our daily usage. It is evident that certain inventions have made our lives substantially easier, but affects our surroundings that we are left to deal with later. Let's take the invention of vehicles into hand. They can be considered one of the greatest inventions of our time allowing us to get from point A to B in a considerable amount of time. Today, one of our biggest issues around the world is the amount of air pollution produced and the expected shortage of gas. People have now become so lazy and reliant on technology that they use their cars to drive somewhere that is as little as a ten minute walk.

Technology consists of different types including electronic and digital products such as cellphones, cameras, radios, computers, televisions, satellites, etc. In our society today, people have become so dependent on technology to make day-to-day life activities much more easy and accessible. A great portion of us have resorted to going 'digital' in the means of saving photos, receipts, documents on file and being able to access it in the click of a button rather than having to search through boxes and stacks of paper to find it years later. We also resort to various apps and programs to organize our lives. We have gotten to the point where bills can be paid online and we can connect with friends and family across the globe. Though these various innovations make simple tasks much simpler, there are small glitches we must deal with.
